RHAN, Biggest RH Network Joins 8,000 Manila Women’s Clamor to Champion Women’s Rights
The Reproductive Health Advocacy Network (RHAN), a coalition of 44 NGOs in Metro Manila pushing for the passage of RH BILL or HB 4244 are joining 8,000-strong rally of Manila’s women to launch “ YES TO LIFE! YES NA YES SA WOMEN’S RIGHTS!” rally-cum-concert on June 11, 2011 (Saturday), 4:30 p.m. at Labores Ext., Pandacan, District 6-Manila.
Dr. Junice Demeterio Melgar, RHAN Sec Gen, said this landmark event led by women leaders of the INA NG BAYAN SA SAIS highlights the need to uphold women’s right to health which includes action against violence against women and reproductive health.
As the debate on House Bill 4244 (or the Responsible Parenthood, Reproductive Health and Population and Development Act of 2011) rages on in Congress, INA NG BAYAN SA SAIS together with various local groups call for respect for the rights of couples and families to make informed choice.
One thousand women from RHAN and peoples’ organizations from Districts 1,2,3 and 5 will converge at Plaza Dilao on Quirino Avenue at 3:00 pm headed for Assembly Point 1 Bagong Barangay. Then they will move onwards to Hilum Street where 7,000 District 6 marchers , accompanied by Angono’s famous “higantes” await them. A mass rally at Labores St. will constitute the main program which will be capped by a mini concert with Aiza Seguerra and Noel Cabangon.
This rally is the climax of a series of consultations and educational sessions initiated by the INA NG BAYAN SA SAIS “These sessions will enable women to be agents of change in their communities.”, said Manila Rep Rosenda Ann Ocampo of District 6.
